Objectives and Justification

A primary objective of the International PCB Workshops is to provide a single forum for the world experts on issues of analysis, fate and transport, exposure assessment, metabolism and disposition, toxicity, and public health policy of PCBs- a unique opportunity for scientists to come together and learn from each other. There will be broad input from scientists both within and outside of the Superfund Research Program. The objectives of this workshop also include presenting the very latest findings on PCB metabolism as well as PCBs and cancers. Finally, a primary objective is to describe national and international activities to reduce human and environmental impact of PCBs with special emphasis on what is being done in Asian countries.

The program developed will be exciting and will include presentations on basic aspects of PCB chemistry, biology and toxicology, as well as new emphasis on specific sites that are highly contaminated, and which are Superfund sites. Although all sessions are timely, the sessions dealing with the contamination, exposure, and remediation of PCB-contaminated sites will be of intense interest, as will the sessions on human exposure (Yusho and Yu-cheng).
