The Ninth International PCB Workshop: PCBs Risk Evaluation and Environmental Protection

Date: Oct. 9th-13th, 2016
Venue: Kobe Convention Center, Kobe, JAPAN

Scientists from many disciplines are concerned with the physical and chemical as well as the biomedical aspects of the detection, movement, metabolism, toxicity, remediation and risk assessment of PCBs. The International PCB Workshops have provided opportunities for these scientists to gather and create a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach to addressing PCB issues. The free exchange of history/sites of environmental contamination, history of production of persistent compounds, coupled with new detection and remediation technologies, and the newest interpretations of toxification mechanisms, all in one meeting, continues to be appealing.

Locations of previous international PCB Workshops have alternated every two years between the United States and Europe to allow for participation of a diverse scientific community and discussion of the world-wide health and policy issues associated with PCB contamination. The Ninth International PCB Workshop will be held in Kobe, Japan. It will allow researchers from around the world to meet, discuss, and collaborate with local organizers and researchers from Asian counties.

Efforts will be made to encourage early career -investigators and investigators traditionally underrepresented in this field to participate. Every effort, including financial support, will be made to bring these individuals to the meeting. At past PCB Workshops travel awards have been provided in order to partially defray the cost of attending the meeting. Information about this category of travel award will be publicized on the PCB Workshop website with information about how to submit an abstract prior to the meeting. Preference for travel awards will be given to early-career scientists, graduate/postdoctoral trainees, and underrepresented individuals. Travel assistance will be decided by a Travel Award Selection Committee, a subset of the IAB and the local organizing committee, which will review the abstracts and assign assistance based on merit and need.
